DEV SITE [hide]

We have very straightforward values at Finch Paper. We believe in delivering tailored solutions, using quality materials and offering the highest level of customer service possible. Our location in the Adirondacks means that we also enjoy an active lifestyle that involves time in the outdoors. We may not all be 46-Rs (the moniker for those who have hiked all 46 Adirondack High Peaks), but we all enjoy rooting on the hometown team. These pennants from Etsy whimsically combined our love of things made from wood and the age-old past time of loving a team.

Wood you?

It can be easy to forget just how many products come from trees, particularly when the mind goes quickly to things like houses, papers and boats. Wood is used in everything from toothpaste and placemats to cologne. Working in the paper industry, unique products created with wood tend to catch our eye. We’ve seen toys, tech gear and work space furniture, but this particular accessory stood out to us as something different. The question is would you slip this wooden beauty on your finger?

On the Road Again

Sometimes it’s good medicine to get out of your creative neighborhood to seek new avenues of inspiration. When time doesn’t allow for a trip to an art gallery or museum, we’ve found these links allow us to travel and feel refreshed.

Three Potato Four is like a trip to the antique store, minus the back roads. Remarkably curated, the inventory runs the gamut from forgotten and quirky to divine and unforgettable.

Neither Fish Nor Fowl features the work of graphic artist Jim Datz and is chock full of visual wonder that he has created, discovered, or collaborated on.

Keep Calm Gallery is a bit like a candy store for those of us who enjoy beautiful things.

Happy wanderings!

Handcrafted for Technology

We have to hand it to the those working in the technology field making all the amazing hand-held devices we all enjoy. Being able to access so much with the swipe of a finger is a luxury. The other day we had the pleasure of giving away five iPads. Their ability to facilitate presentations, entertain our little ones, and offer easy web accessibility is incredible. Being a paper company, we obviously advocate for a world where screens and sheets coexist. We have no doubt iPads and other gadgetry will be a big winner this holiday season, right next to hard cover books, calendars, stationery and sketch books.

Here are a few purposeful presents for your gadgets.

A gift with a charge. An iPhone/iPad docking station with “woodsy” charm (and it’s made in our neck of the woods).

There is something about this one that makes us smile.

This case let’s you go undercover.

Whether you read your books on a screen or between 100 lb. covers, treat yourself to a little something.

Full of Uses

We are fond of things with multiple uses, we also like interesting things. The Museum of Useful Things combines some of our favorite things. Hatch Show Print wove their magic for a very useful, very incredible poster design.

Print it.

There’s been a fair amount of buzz in recent years over whether the internet would destroy print. While the internet continues to explode, print lives on in new ways. We were reminiscing about the ways we practiced the 3 Rs [reduce, reuse, recycle] back when we were kids—Sunday morning comics became wrapping paper when we found something very cool.

Have a peek at print that rolls on and on at Anthology.

Contrast is the spice of life

Sometimes things are made better by pairing them unexpectedly. In this case, both things are remarkable, showcasing them together just makes us chuckle.

This delectable looking display is the work of the amazing Louise Fili. Design*Sponge offers a great peek into her work space here.

The next item is straight forward, black and white brilliance; an homage of sorts to all things design by writer Austin Howe. As entertaining as the title suggests, but chock full of appreciation for design and designers.

Wings of Finch

Hope takes many forms, as does action. This October hope and action will come together in the form of origami paper birds created by children and adults. Octo Design Group and Skai Blue Media will request $1 for each origami bird, the goal being to send $5,000 directly to the National Wildlife Federation to aid animal rescue in the Gulf. In addition, the Delaware County school system will be conducting collaborative workshops to produce more oragami birds and deepen the awareness. The birds will be fashioned upon the façade of the design studio and serve as a backdrop for a film, created by Root Branch Kids. This a 6-week film and television production program is offered to 6th, 7th and 8th grade children, and will  illustrate the devastation on wildlife as a result of the BP oil spill.

We found out about the event when the President of the Octo Design Group, Wendy Verna, asked if we would consider donating paper for the cause.

“The idea for this installation was inspired by my curiosity. The oil spill really hit home when my two children, ages 12 and 14, asked me: “How did this happen? Why didn’t anyone stop it? What can we do?” At such young ages, their first response was one of compassion and genuine concern. They wanted to do something. As they asked more questions, I researched to provide my children with the best answers. As I learned more about the spill and the effects of the wildlife, I knew I needed to do something to help. We got word yesterday that our exhibit has been voted into the top 10 design Philadelphia exhibits! We are really excited about that.”

“Finch has always provided a quality paper, and their sales representatives over the years have always been people of great character. I knew if I reached out to Finch they would help, and they did. On top of that I am a huge fan of Terry Franks!”

We are honored to help this idea take flight and to offer Finch Paper as a way to educate, assist and delight.

Bravo to everyone involved in this incredible effort!

Simply Fine

At Finch we keep things simple, making the unadorned, uncoated, papers you use everyday. We however appreciate the wonders of design and ingenuity. Today’s links are a nod to integrating simplicity for the love of aesthetics.

A visual feast compliments of Door Sixteen.

This idea struck a chord as we are always working to find more ways to buy local, celebrate creativity, and cherish our friendships. Will you be taking the pledge this year?

A Day in the Park

There is nothing quite like time at the park, whether for a bit of solitude or a patch of afternoon sun to share lunch. It doesn’t take much to elevate your time at the park.

To get you there with speed, style and conscience.

Why not make it a picnic to talk about?

Preserve the memories, protect your camera.
